One of our most important research markets in the East African Community is Tanzania with its diverse geography, scenery and people.
Our Senior Field Coordinator, Emmanuel Bita, had the opportunity to oversee a very important quantitative research project for a Client which involved a lot of individual interviews and some live focus groups via Zoom.
Emmanuel was able to share some of his thoughts from his time in TZ:
“Tanzania is a very peaceful country. The common spoken language here is Swahili. In fact, Swahili is the official language. Since a majority of the population speaks Swahili, you will most likely need the services of an English translator in order to conduct surveys or other research projects.
As a collective, Tanzanians are very welcoming people. They’re always ready to assist you if the need arises. It’s just part of their nature.
For Internet communications, there are several mobile phones service providers. However the most popular one appears to be Vodacom. There’s also Airtel , TiGo*, Halotel among others. Data bundles are very affordable and 4G braodband services are very reliable. For most of our projects, we usually choose Vodacom due to their superior network coverage.”
Note: Tigo rebranded as Yas in 2024 “in a move aimed at consolidating its position as a pan-African digital and financial powerhouse.” [source]
Finally, a big thanks go out to our interpreters, interviewers, coordinators and the entire TZ community for their hospitality while hosting us. We at Infinite Insight are always enthusiastic to conduct research projects in your beautiful country.
