Updates from MSRA Advanced Training Workshop

This year’s Advanced Training workshop was fantastic. It took place at the Heron Court Hotel with around 10 participants. Althea McCourt — our Managing Director — took part by training research professionals in the Qualitative Research Level 2 Certificate course. This course covers the important task of moderating, what moderators are, what moderators should do, and the Guide in terms of moderating. It also delves into “how” Qualitative Research compliments Quantitative Research.

When asked to share her thoughts at the conclusion of the training session and how receptive she found the participants, Althea stated the following:

“It was a very receptive group. A lot of questions were asked. The participants showed very clearly that they were understanding. For example, we did an example scenario where they were required to set up a discussion guide. So we had actually given them a topic and they were instructed to write a discussion guide in terms of HOW a discussion guide is STRUCTURED ie. the general, followed by the more detailed, followed by the full detailed and followed by the closure.”

Althea also mentioned that the Advanced Training course is taught annually along with the MSRA Basic Training course. All participants must complete Basic Training before they are eligible to participate in the Advanced Training course.

Before signing off, I also asked Althea to share here thoughts on the upcoming Annual ESOMAR 2026 AI Conference in Nairobi which is focused on AI. This was her response:

“First, we’re very excited and happy that they’ve chosen Kenya to conduct their conference. We believe that it will be an excellent and interesting conference. The speakers look very interesting.”
